Male Hormone Therapy

Testosterone is a hormone that benefits both men and women. When levels decrease, a hormonal imbalance occurs which can have a negative impact on a person’s overall health. Testosterone levels in men and women can decline for a variety of reasons including stress, aging, infections, and even trauma. Talk to the providers at Test MeD Clinic to see if Testosterone Replacement therapy is right for you.

What is Testosterone?

Testosterone is a hormone that is important to both men’s and women’s reproductive and sexual health. During puberty, testosterone helps boys develop male physical features like body and facial hair, deeper voices, and muscle strength. Upon maturity, testosterone continues to play a vital role in a range of bodily functions, such as the production of sperm, muscle and bone health, muscle mass, and sexual and reproductive function in males. Though women naturally produce less testosterone than men, in small amounts, the hormone is essential in the support of several body functions. Testosterone in girls contributes to musculoskeletal growth, sexual arousal, and the development of sex organs.

What is testosterone replacement therapy?

Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) or androgen replacement therapy (ART) is the supervised usage of testosterone-boosting products that contain hormones to treat andropause, testosterone deficiency, and male hypogonadism. TRT comes in different variations of treatment such as:

  • Mouth patch: Certain tablets stick to the gums and release testosterone through the oral tissues. This form of T-boosting treatment is highly recommended for individuals who have a problem with swallowing.
  • Injections and implants: These T-boosting treatments require you to undergo an injection of testosterone in the muscles. The testosterone, then, gets pushed into the bloodstream and circulates your body.
  • Skin patch: Applied once per day, a skin patch is worn on your upper body or arm to boost testosterone levels.
  • Gels: Your skin absorbs testosterone through the gel which you apply to your upper arms once or twice per day.
  • Testosterone pills: Oral testosterone can also help with T levels, but it may come with an increased risk of side effects. Consult your doctor before taking this form of treatment.

TRT For Men

Male Hypogonadism or “low-T” is a condition that occurs when a man has a significant testosterone deficiency in his body. Low T happens for a variety of reasons, the most common is aging. Symptoms of low T in men include:

  • Erectile dysfunction.
  • Infertility.
  • Decrease in hair growth on the face and body.
  • Decrease in muscle mass.
  • Development of breast tissue (gynecomastia)
  • Loss of bone mass (osteoporosis)

If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, TRT may be the right solution for you.

TRT Treatments

TRT is only available with a prescription. After wellness and diagnostic exams, a Test MeD Clinic provider can prescribe and treat the symptoms associated with low T. Your lab results will reveal the concentration of the medication or injection and secondary lab tests completed after treatment can verify the results and efficacy of treatment.

If a person presents with symptoms consistent with low testosterone levels, a doctor will only provide a prescription after taking a thorough medical history and performing physical and lab exams.

Testosterone is the predominant hormone found in men. It plays a key role in the development of male reproductive tissues such as Testes and Prostate. Although Testosterone is Predominant Hormone in Males, it is important to note that testosterone is also produced in Females, however, at a lower level, compared to men. Testosterone plays key a role in promoting Muscle Growth, Brain Function, Bone Density, Mood Stabilization, as well as Hair Growth. Testosterone is sometimes referred to as “Steroids” or “Anabolic Steroids”, and over the years, these references have sometimes put a cloud of stigmatization when Testosterone Replacement Therapy is discussed.

Testosterone Deficiency is a predominant issue amongst men of all ages. Most men will experience symptoms of low testosterone beginning in their 30s. A steady decrease in Testosterone levels is often thought of as a natural occurrence with aging, however, this is a Misconception. Hypogonadism or Low-T as it is often referred to, is not only commonly diagnosed in older adults but also in patients in their 20s or younger. Because of the association and acceptance of decreasing Testosterone Levels as a normal process with aging, most cases of Testosterone Deficiency have gone undiagnosed and untreated. Call TMD today for a free initial consultation to discuss you concerns related to Testosterone Deficiency and Testosterone Replacement.
